Annual CSU-Hosted Masterclass Event
Each year, Charleston Southern University (CSU) hosts an annual music education event in partnership with Lowcountry Music & Arts, welcoming musicians from across the region. Open to participants ranging from middle school students to teaching professionals, the event creates a shared learning environment that encourages growth, mentorship, and artistic exchange at every level.
The program features master clinicians such as Dominic Derasse, whose expertise and artistry inspire and provide high-level instruction for students, educators, and performers alike. By bringing together diverse musicians in an academic setting, this annual CSU-hosted event strengthens the Lowcountry’s music community and expands access to professional musical development.
Why a trumpet?
Lowcountry Music & Arts was inspired by the legacy of Dr. Kenneth Skipper, Jr., an accomplished trumpeter whose passion for music, education, and community left a lasting impact. In his honor, the trumpet serves as a central focus of our programming, symbolizing leadership, expression, and musical excellence.
